Let me begin my first blog with a brief background of my story, and how it led me to NY fashion week. I was working for a non profit organization that service it's community more specifically the children of the community, we provided child care for before and after school. I was an assistant supervisor and I'm pretty sure once the school year was over I would most likely be promoted to Site Supervisor. Here's the thing I was not happy, the day to day became mundane and I wasn't really living. After much consideration and playing it safe my whole life. I quit my job and enrolled in a trade school with makeup artistry. I know very scary. It has been my passion to do makeup professional for a long time. Does makeup pay the bills? I would asked myself often. After years of second guessing and being unhappy I took a leap of faith and just did it. It was a start of new year as well. My first class was January 8, 2018, I will forever remember this date because my life finally began. This intro is a lot longer than I anticipated, I'm sorry about that. Let's fast forward to fashion week now. I had the pleasure of volunteering at a fashion show in NYC last month for fashion week, it was an international show with multiple designers. I saw an ad on Eventbrite posted by the agency in charge of the show. The agency needed additional makeup artists for this show on February 14th. I responded and the response was immediate. I was so excited. The experience was enough compensation for me. Doing makeup for a fashion show is a whole another ball game let alone for New York Fashion week. Each designer had a look they wanted the models to display and you as a makeup artist have to convey the image. The space was cramped and there was not much time for a full face makeup application (but you have to get the job done). The same area I was applying makeup, was the same area for hair styling, and wardrobe fittings, might I add press as well. Saying it was a zoo is an understatement. With all the obstacles I wouldn't trade this experience. It was a rush and I see myself in the future doing more fashion runway shows. It's like I was waiting for this moment my whole life. Meeting so many fascinating people and networking made the decision to quit my job so well worth it. I don't want to stop at New York, I want to do Paris, Milan, and London; sky is the limit. Doing this one fashion show made me ecstatic that I took a chance and followed my dreams and now I'm here. Thank you for reading.
